On the 9th of November in 2007 the lower house of the german parliament passed a resolution to build a freedom memorial in memory of the peaceful revolution in 1989. During a short decision-making process the lower house authirized an unknown german artist to install his art work at the Schlossfreiheit in Berlin. It is a freely suspended escalator. The Steps are driving of the escalator, refering to different historically significant signposts of the german history.
